Garden tea party themed birthday session and boho cake smash | Long Island baby photographer | Michelle Behr Photography

When it came time for Amelia’s cake smash we knew it needed to be outdoor since her newborn session was outdoors as well! In the same private location, we staged a garden tea party theme and a boho themed cake smash! We used Hydrangea which we had used for her newborn session and momma got in a shot just like her newborn photos! The boho theme was so fun to style! We decided on dreamcatchers and feathers and a naked iced cake by Flour Blossom Bakery. Amelia decided that cake wasn’t for her, but we didn’t mind since she gave us so many amazing photo opportunities beforehand. Take a look at her first birthday photos and cake smash session below!

The most amazing part of this job is watching my clients families grow. The little guy is the third boy for this beautiful family whom I love to photograph. Just last year we had done their second son’s cake smash! We had to grab one quick shot of all of the boys together before they went home with daddy and we focused on the newest little boy! Sharing some sweet shots from his session below.

*Remember to book your newborn sessions early so you don’t miss out on these special photos! Around the 20th week of pregnancy is a great time to book.

First Birthday photography in Long Island, NY

I was so excited when little R came to the studio for her first birthday photos! I had done her newborn session and couldn’t believe it had been a whole year since then. Already a walker, little R did not want to stay on set! We were able to keep her still for just a few moments with a vintage doll cradle, where go got some very sweet shots of her! Part of the session was reserved for some very special portraits of R’s big sister. These photos are taken by each of the family members when they are 3 years old in a special navy uniform! Now this cutie’s photo can join the tradition!

Valentine’s photo session play date in Long Island, NY

We had a great time at the play date photo session here at Michelle Behr Photography! It was a Valentine’s Day theme and it was ridiculously fun! I have been wanting to offer a session like this for a long time and have decided to go ahead and offer just ONE of these a month! The new Playdate Photo Session can be on location or in my studio located in the Town of Huntington! I want to remember everything about my kids’ childhood and I’m sure you may feel the same way. Well, their friends are part of that! This is a way to get amazing photos of your kids candidly playing with their friends and posed shots as well! Belly painting art! A very cool way to celebrate the maternity belly!

A few days ago I had the opportunity to watch this gorgeous momma get her belly painted as beautiful artwork. The painting was done by Karen of Flying Colors Face and Body Art, located in Long Island. I watched as her belly was transformed into a total work of art! I could not help thinking that I wished this was something that I had done when I was pregnant. I also thought what a great idea to add to a maternity photo session! Art within art! Any mom that is having her belly painted would want to have beautiful photos of it to look back on as well.

Baby Tate-Newborn-Session-NY- Long overdue!

I am terribly delinquent on my blogging! Here is a session that should have been blogged back in June! I’m photographing Tate’s baby blessing this weekend and could not let that date pass without having blogged his newborn session. I cannot wait to see him this weekend and see how big he has grown in the past few months. So today I am revisiting his newborns session! We got some great shots of Tate with his big brother! I also could not pass up the opportunity to get mom’s fabulous hair color in some shots (she is an amazing colorist!) and some of her tattoos too!

The beautiful mommas and babies of MOMMAS House

I love when I have the opportunity to use my camera to actually help people! These ladies were in need of some portraits of themselves and their little ones and I was more than happy to volunteer to do it! If you don’t know about this organization, learn about it here. It is truly wonderful how they are helping these young women at such a difficult time in their lives.

Since 1986 MOMMAS House has been providing a home for homeless your mothers aged 18 to 23 years and their babies. For approximately 2 years, the young mothers at MOMMAS House continue education or vocational experience interrupted by pregnancy. With guidance and direction, the young mothers can learn to support themselves and their children independently.

Tiniest Flower Child- Outdoor Newborn Session in Huntington, NY

When the weather is just right, which is not a whole lot of days here in Long Island, we are able to take a newborn session outside! These are some of my favorite sessions! Elia’s session day was gorgeous and I was so glad that mom and dad didn’t mind me taking her outside, or that grandma didn’t mind me trampling through her garden. The butterfly bush was a perfect color to compliment Elia wrapped in a yellow wrap and sunflower tie back. She looked like a perfect tiny flower child! Even though she was awake for most of her session, we were able to get some beautiful sleepy shots, as well as some really cute awake ones! We even swaddled her like a russian doll, or as her grandma said “a little lady from the old country”. This got many laughs from Elia’s great aunts that had come to see her and gather for lunch. I so enjoyed meeting her parents and the extended family! Enjoy the photos!
